Introducing the Seven Muscles Central to Alignment (Video)
This tutorial is an introduction to the seven muscles central to alignment.
In Literal Technique, the seven muscles central to alignment are the Erector Spinae; the Four Abdominals (Transversus Abdominis, Rectus Abdominis, the Internal Obliques, and the External Obliques); the Latissimi Dorsi (Lats); and the Pectoralis Majors (Pec Majors).
All seven muscles are directly connected to the vertebrae and/or to aspects of the skull, the rib cage barrel, and the pelvic barrel.
The joint and simultaneous purpose of the seven muscles is to align, stabilize, and move the 33 vertebrae.
In your class this week, continue to work on simultaneous alignment of the three places alignment tends to break. Test your technique at every opportunity – alignment of the 33 vertebrae underneath the seven muscles is crucial.
For an overview of the seven central muscles, take a look at my Substack newsletter, “The Seven Muscles at the Center of Alignment: What Happens Where.”
